Professor Yongnian Yan
Prof. Yongnian Yan, professor and advisor of Ph. D. candidates of Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University, was born in Chongqing on Jan. 12, 1938, and graduated from Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University in 1962. He was awarded the Government Special Allowance. Now he is the director of Center for Laser Rapid Forming of Tsinghua University, executive trustee of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society Non-traditional Processing Division, chairman of Rapid Forming Technologies Committee, representative of China at Global Alliance of Rapid Prototyping Associations, member of Editorial Board of Journal of Eng-Manufacturing and so on.
Main Achievements and Contributions
(1) He put forward the discretion/accumulation principle, and developed the new technologies of Pattern less Casting Manufacturing and Rapid Ice Prototyping Forming. The Multifunction Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing System were awarded the second prize of National Science and Technology Advance Award in 2002.
(2) Combined Manufacturing with Life Sciences, a process of Low-Temperature Deposition Technique and the machine was developed. Scaffolds used for bone and cartilage tissue engineering have been prepared. The researches of the biomaterials forming and the clinic application were regarded at the high level of the China. At the beginning of this century, Prof. Yan proposed the cell direct controlled assembly technology to construct precursor tissue analogy, arose a broad attention in biomedicine and correlative field. It is a breakthrough and has great potential to fabricate the tissue and organ.
(3) The application of the Prestress principle on industries such as Heat Transition Machine and Ceramics Hydropress Machine has achieved great economy and social benefit, and was awarded the third prize of National Science and Technology Advance Award in 1998.
Prof. Yan has published two hundred and fifty nine articles, among them twenty nine articles were embodied by SCI. On the other hand, Prof. Yan has edited nine books. Under his direction, thirty five doctors, fourteen postgraduates and 8 post doctors have graduated.
